As soon as the old grandfather clock chimed nine times, Charlie bustled into the kitchen. Alice and Jasper only had until nine to study and hang out with each other, but it only felt like he'd been here a few minutes, not a few hours. She frowned as he left, then hurried to clean the dishes that she and Charlie had dirtied. It was strange, Jasper didn't eat much either. Another to the list.
Alice hurriedly took her shower and checked her E-mail. She was tired as a dog, and ready to sleep. Just as she turned off her computer screen, she noticed something. Her sketchbook, lying open on her bed. She walked over to it, sitting down and holding it in her lap. She flipped through the pages, shaking her head at some of the ludacris things she'd drawn....
Wait! That was it! Alice dug through the sketchpad with purpose now, until she reached the drawings she wanted. Jasper in a confederate uniform. The one she made when she was five. One stick figure alone in the woods, six others at the house beyond them. Another. Another. Another. All with different forms of dress. From nineteenth century to now. In a few drawings, his eyes were red, others, gold, and one other, blue. He had been in a confederate uniform, staring in fear at three shadows.
Alice found every drawing that she'd ever made of Jasper, and spread them out evenly on the floor, from the oldest form of dress to now. She stared, wide-eyed, at these drawings, struggling to put everything together. Speed, strength, cold skin, changing eyes...
Alice practically stumbled to her computer, jerking it awake and going to the first search engine she thought of. In the small box, just beside the search button, she typed: Vampire.

Like he had promised Jasper had come over at six. And just like Charlie had said, he was only permitted to stay till nine. The grandfather clock ticked nine times and Charlie had come bustling into the kitchen where they were studying. Jasper had left without complaint, addressing a simple 'Have A Good Evening' to both of them before departing. To Jasper it had seemed like Charlie was all to eager for him to leave, not that he could blame the guy. Jasper was in love with his daughter, after all.
Jasper quietly climbed into Edward's Volvo, turning on the engine. He had almost considered borrowing Emmett's Jeep but decided against it. He definitely wouldn't be riding in Rosalie's convertible--bright red wasn't his style. He could've borrowed Carlisle's Mercedes, but decided against it. Why not leave the option of having a night out open to Carlisle and Esme? Then they wouldn't have to ride a Volvo or any other car. No, they could ride in a slick, black car.
Jasper just shook his head and smiled when he noticed none of the cars were gone... yet. The house was bustling all around, nobody probably even noticing his arrival. He quietly entered the house, just in time to see Bella walk down the steps. He opened his mouth to say something but she quickly shook her head, silently telling him to not even ask. Jasper nodded, not bothering. He climbed the stairs quickly, entering his room in silence. With a slight, unneeded jump, Jasper flopped down onto the couch in his room, grabbing the Civil War book off the table. Might as well read.

When Alice finally turned off her computer, she did nothing. She simply sat at the desk for an immeasurable amount of time. Finally, she stood up, not bothering to look at the drawings that still lay across her floor. She curled up in her warm, twin-sized bed, closing her eyes. It all added up, but it couldn't possibly be true. Jasper, a vampire?
Visions of Jasper attacking animals filled her mind. Of the three women in the night. Of strange, pale, cresent-shaped scars. Jasper's skin in the sun, varying from burning, to a pale, shimmering. His golden eyes changing over time, growing darker and darker every day that she saw him. She opened her eyes. No. Sleeping was not a good idea at the moment. She couldn't sleep, could barely think. She certainly wouldn't ask Jasper about any of this, until she was absolutely sure. She tried to think of a better way to explain him. She tried to distinguish him between Bruce Wayne and Peter Parker, but that didn't quite work. Jasper was too unique to compare to anybody, even fictional characters.
But then she thought about when she spent time with him. Jasper had been so kind, so gentle with her. She could almost feel his lips against hers, a light, soft touch, like butterfly wings. The way he was determined to take care of her, to save her, to protect her if anything ever happened to her. Alice rolled over restlessly, trying to find a comfortable way to get to sleep. It didn't work. She closed her eyes anyway, struggling to will herself to sleep.

Jasper sat, reading his Civil War novel. An hour ticked by, then another half. Jasper sighed and gave himself a small shrug. Marking the page, he easily jumped out of the couch, ready to go. He always went to watch Alice sleep at night, and tonight was no exception. He quickly changed into a pair of khaki pants and a dark blue, long sleeve shirt. Might as well let Esme wash the clothes that held the scent of human blood.
Jasper easily opened the glass doors of his room, crouching down for a minute. In a heartbeat he took off flying, running to Alice's house. It was an extremely dark night, the clouds not allowing the moonlight to shine through, much like they did with the sun. It didn't take much for Jasper to jump up to Alice's window, opening it in a movement nobody could have ever imagined.
As he walked slowly through the room he noticed a ton of drawings of him scattered around. He didn't pay much attention to them, not wanting to know what it was about. What had she been thinking while he was absent? Trying to figure out what he was? Though he hated to act so high and almighty about himself, he had to admit that for a moment it felt like that. Alice would never guess he was a vampire, would she?
Jasper wasn't paying attention to everything around him, he was to interested in the pictures. Wondering what Alice was doing with them, what she had been thinking. Because he hadn't been paying attention, Jasper accidentally ran into the desk, a dull thud erupting from the contact. "Crap," Jasper muttered under his breath in a voice that only he could here. He immediately went to the closest, ready to hide in their if Alice woke up.

I walk down a giant staircase, one that is covered in rose pettles of red and white. I walk slowly, not wanting to trip over my dress. It's long, elegant, and white as the walls of the house she was in. I want to see him so badly my chest hurts. Charlie is at my right, making sure I keep pace with the music as I try to rush ahead. As I enter the large room, I can see everyone. My friends, my family. Decorations make themselves known to my eyes, wonderful scents filling my nostrils. I look past the trail of falling rose pettles and see him, a bright, beautiful smile on his face as he sees me, and I know he loves me. I know-
There was an odd thumping sound, followed by a quiet, "Crap." Alice rolled over, keeping her eyes shut, though she was now awake. Someone was in her room; she could feel it. But who was it? She made sure her face was relaxed, her body comfortable. Whoever it was, she wanted to be able to see him face-to-face. She didn't want to risk the chance of him leaving without at least two bullet holes in his shirt. Her father was the Chief of Police. She was born holding a flashlight and handcuffs.
Alice opened her eyes, seeing the dark form in her room. Without looking away from him, she leaned to the side, turning her lamp on. She was shocked at what she saw. Jasper standing in her room, beside her closet. She didn't bother to look at her drawings; she already knew they had been scattered around the room by his feet. Her voice, much quieter and softer than she would have used with anyone else, even her own father, asked, "Jasper? What are you doing in here?"
What was he doing in her room? On her property no less? His eyes were a shade darker than they had been earlier today, she noted absently, as she tried to gather her thoughts. This was one of her dreams come true, and yet she was not excited by it, nor scared. Merely curious. As if knowing something was up, she added, "How long have you been coming here?"

Alice had rolled over to look at him, her eyes barely open as she found a comfortable position. There was no point in trying to hide now. She already knew he was here. Might as well just let that be that. She kept her eyes on him as she turned on the light, shocked to see him there. Jasper sighed in defeat, waiting for Alice to say something. Anything. If she ended up shouting at him he well deserved it. However, he would be out of there before Charlie knew he was here.
"Jasper? What are you doing in here?" she asked in an extremely quiet and soft voice. Jasper kept his face neutral, not bothering to offer her a smile. She was probably mad at him for all he knew. Slipping out of his shoes, Jasper moved silently to her bed, sitting in the middle of it, at her legs. Jasper let out another sigh of defeat. "I, um, well I... enjoy watching you sleep," Jasper said out of embarrassment, hanging his head slightly low. He put a hand on the back of his neck, still embarrassed.
He could tell Alice was curious from her emotions, not angry or anything else. Not scared, not excited, not anything but curious. "How long have you been coming here?" she asked and Jasper looked down in embarrassment again. "Since I met you," Jasper said, embarrassed again. It was definitely strange, sitting there talking to Alice. Before he had been so careful not to run into anything so he wouldn't awaken her, but tonight he had. By careless mistake. He had been absorbed in thought as to why all the drawings of him were on the ground and hadn't paid any attention. He definitely learned a lesson. Watch your surroundings, very carefully. Very, very carefully.

Jasper let out a sigh of defeat. "I, um, well I... enjoy watching you sleep," Jasper said out of embarrassment, hanging his head slightly low. He put a hand on the back of his neck, still embarrassed. Alice couldn't help but smile at this. As if he were afraid she would yell at him, embarrassed, like any teenage boy would, that he had been caught. She raised an eyebrow at him, smirking. She was rather enjoying this comical event.
"I remember," she nodded, "I had a nightmare and...I thought it was just another dream." Unbelievable. She couldn't believe that what she thought had been a dream had, in fact, been reality. She was a bit disappointed in herself. She thought she'd been fully awake for her first kiss with Jasper, now she knew otherwise. "Why am I so fascinating when I sleep?" She laughed quietly, shaking her head. She remembered how her mother would watch her when she slept. She'd thought it was a bit creepy for her mother to do it, but very comical to hear her recounting what had happened the next day.
"Since I met you," Jasper said, embarrassed again. Alice blushed. She couldn't help but feel a bit touched by this. If anyone else had done it, she would have freaked out. But, seeing as how Jasper seemed to regret coming here - probably just about her waking up - she accepted it. "It's kinda strange," she mused aloud, "I should be mad, scared, something. But I can't help but feel...protected. Yeah, I'll choose that word. It works best." She smiled. She finally looked down at the ground, frowning when she saw the scattered drawings. Now they were all out of order. Oh, well. She would fix them in the morning. She had all day to investigate; it was Saturday. She wanted to spend tonight with Jasper.

Alice smiled at his response and Jasper felt slightly more embarrassed. As if they were temporarily changing spots. Jasper embarrassed and whatnot, while Alice smiling at him. It was usually the opposite. Alice embarrassed, and him smiling. It was humorous to say the least, seeing it the other way around. Now he knew how Alice felt whenever she was thoroughly embarrassed.
"I remember," Alice said, nodding. "I had a nightmare and...I thought it was just another dream." Jasper chuckled softly at this, shaking his head. "Nope that was reality," he said with a smile. Well, now she knew that kiss that night had been real, not make believe. Of course, to make it seem all the more real he had ended up kissing her in the morning. That had to count for something. "Why am I so fascinating when I sleep?" Alice asked and Jasper shrugged with a laugh. "You talk. And you toss and turn like you're acting it out or something. I don't know. It's just entertaining."
Alice blushed at his comment, perhaps also embarrassed. He definitely was. "It's kinda strange," Alice mused out loud. Jasper raised an eyebrow, not fully understanding. "I should be mad, scared, something. But I can't help but feel...protected. Yeah, I'll choose that word. It works best." Jasper chuckled. Had she not yet learned that protected was his favorite word to use when describing why he kept his secret from Alice? Because that was definitely the easiest way to describe it. Protection.
"I'm glad that you feel protected and not mad or scared. I would understand if you were mad at me, but I would be hurt if you were afraid of me," Jasper said, ending his sentence there. No need to continue that thought. His eyes flashed to the ground while Alice looked at it. "I"m sorry. I should probably clean that up. I'll show you a picture and you tell me how you want it organized? Or should I put it together myself and let you sleep?" Jasper asked, both asking Alice and musing about it at the same time. If Alice wanted him to clean it up and make it neat again he was sure he could do that.

Jasper chuckled softly at this, shaking his head. "Nope that was reality," he smiled. Alice truly couldn't remember everything that happened that night, just that she'd had a nightmare, and woken up to find him in her room. She'd shared her first kiss with him, and had fallen asleep in his arms. Jasper shrugged with a laugh. "You talk. And you toss and turn like you're acting it out or something. I don't know. It's just entertaining." Alice blushed, "I didn't say anything too embarrassing, did I?" She asked. She couldn't stand it if she said something stupid and mushy, or something that Jasper took offense to.
Jasper raised an eyebrow at her, then chuckled. "I'm glad that you feel protected and not mad or scared. I would understand if you were mad at me, but I would be hurt if you were afraid of me," he said. Alice smiled sadly, "I don't think I could make myself be afraid of you," she told him, "And knowing that I'd hurt you if I was makes me wanna stay just like we are. I don't want to ever be afraid of you, Jasper."
His eyes flashed to the ground while Alice looked at it. "I"m sorry. I should probably clean that up. I'll show you a picture and you tell me how you want it organized? Or should I put it together myself and let you sleep?" Jasper asked, and Alice smiled at him in response. "No, it's okay," she assured him, "I'll just pick that up in the morning. I want to do more important things with my time, anyway." She placed her hand on his cold, wintry cheek. Then to his hair. She couldn't help but marvel over it. The long, beautiful tresses, the soft, silky texture of it, the pale, gorgeous blonde shades. It was something even a girl would envy. Everything about him was perfect, while she...wasn't. How could someone as beautiful and magnificent as Jasper love someone as plain and small as her?
"You're not going to leave, are you?" She asked, surprised to hear herself asking the words. She didn't want him to go, but if he had other plans, she wouldn't stop him. She just wanted to be around him, talk to him, maybe even have a replay of what happened the first time she caught him in her room.

Jasper chuckled when Alice blushed at his statement about what was so interesting about watching her sleep. Truth be told, everything. She looked so cute and tiny next to the bed, and it was a mere twin size. How she would look curled up on a king sized bed would truly be something funny to see. If that ever did happen and Emmett found out about it Jasper knew he would torment Alice non-stop about it.
"I didn't say anything too embarrassing, did I?" Alice asked and Jasper chuckled. "Well once you said my name then asked 'why are we here, baby.' It doesn't get too much worse than that," Jasper chuckled to himself, remembering the memory. "But don't worry. I found it funny and eventually got revenge by referring to you as 'baby' though I think you were almost asleep so you probably didn't hear it," Jasper said, flashing Alice a smile.
Alice's sad smile pained him slightly. He liked seeing a full blown, happy smile from Alice. Never a pained one. "I don't think I could make myself be afraid of you," Alice told him and Jasper gave Alice a small smile. "And knowing that I'd hurt you if I was makes me wanna stay just like we are. I don't want to ever be afraid of you, Jasper."
"Don't say that. I am dangerous, Alice. You should fear me. Fear me with your life," Jasper said before looking away and shaking his head. He didn't want Alice to fear him, but it was for her own good. Fearing him. Now there wasn't really any way to turn back. He was already head over heels for her, and she acted the same way at points. There was no fear.
"No, it's okay," she said assuringly. "I'll just pick that up in the morning. I want to do more important things with my time, anyway." She placed a hand on his cheek, then in his hair. He shut his eyes and waited for Alice to do as she willed. He would only resist if she was tempted to give him a make over. He definitely didn't want that to happen. Emmett would torment him about it for all eternity if he found out.
"You're not going to leave, are you?" Alice asked and Jasper opened his eyes to stare at her. He chuckled and let a smile spread across his lips. "Only if you want me to. I don't have anything else planned," Jasper said with a smile. If Alice wanted him to stay there till morning that was fine. He would only leave when Charlie got up to go to work, if he left then. Maybe hiding in the closet again.

"Well once you said my name then asked 'why are we here, baby.' It doesn't get too much worse than that," Jasper chuckled to himself, and Alice blushed a deep shade of crimson. Of course she had said something like that. "But don't worry. I found it funny and eventually got revenge by referring to you as 'baby' though I think you were almost asleep so you probably didn't hear it," he smiled. She returned the gesture. "Yeah, I do remember that," she said, "And you stayed."
"Don't say that. I am dangerous, Alice. You should fear me. Fear me with your life," Jasper said before looking away and shaking his head. Alice frowned, unable to hide the hurt in her features. "You sound like you want me to be afraid of you," she whispered, "If you are dangerous, then I'll be cautious, if it makes you feel better, but I will never fear you." Her voice rang with certainty and indignation, "I don't care what you are, just as long as you're here, and as long as you're honest with me. I want you."
He closed his eyes as Alice ran her fingers through his hair. Unconciously, she began to hum, a lullaby of sorts that her mother used to sing to her when she was little. Jasper opened his eyes to stare at her. He chuckled and let a smile spread across his lips. "Only if you want me to. I don't have anything else planned." Alice smiled at him. If it were possible, she'd ask him to stay forever, to never leave her side, but it was a ridiculous kind of hope. "How old are you really?" She found herself asking. She had a hunch, but she wanted to hear the answer from his lips. Hear the truth from him, and not from her observations.
sorry, really short, I know. I was gone for the weekend and this is a last minute post. sorry.

Jasper smiled as Alice blushed a shade of deep crimson. He always enjoyed seeing Alice blush any shade of crimson. It was the only form of crimson he enjoyed. Normally he hated the color crimson, the shade of red reminding him of the Vampire Wars. Such horrible times. But these times with Alice were far greater than anything ever before. Jasper was fairly certain he would never have greater days than those with Alice. No, he was extremely certain of this. Unless Alice stayed with him forever, there would be no greater days.
"Yeah, I do remember that," Alice said, bringing Jasper back to the real world. "And you stayed." Jasper smiled and nodded. "I didn't have much choice. I'd be in for Hell if I left," Jasper said with a wink. Alice had threatened him in some way or another that night, this he vaguely remembered though. Though he was certain if he really thought about it he would remember, he wasn't about to do that. Why ruin his night with Alice?
Alice frowned, hurt by his words. Jasper sighed and looked down. He hadn't meant to hurt her. "You sound like you want me to be afraid of you," she said, her voice a whisper. "If you are dangerous, then I'll be cautious, if it makes you feel better, but I will never fear you. I don't care what you are, just as long as you're here, and as long as you're honest with me. I want you." Jasper let out a soft sigh, thinking about this for a moment. "Cautious," Jasper mused around with the idea for a moment, before letting a sigh out. "Fair enough," he said in agreement, knowing it would be best.
"How old are you really?" Alice asked and Jasper raised an eyebrow at her. What brought this question on? "Eighteen, Alice. I'm eighteen," Jasper said with a shrug. Though physically he was twenty, he had to pass as a senior. He had to be eighteen. It was the only way they could stay in one place for so long.

Jasper smiled and nodded. "I didn't have much choice. I'd be in for Hell if I left," he winked, and Alice smirked in response. She remembered threatening him in some way or another, though her memory was a bit hazy. She couldn't help but feel relieved that it hadn't been a dream. She loved Jasper, and instead of being creeped out, like she should have been, she was thankful. Like he was her little night-watchman.
Jasper sighed and looked down. "Cautious," he mused, sighing once more, "Fair enough," he finally agreed, and Alice smiled at him, her good mood returning as quickly as it had left. She grinned at him. "I love getting my way," she laughed quietly. It was funny, how easily she could get people - friends, family, anyone - wrapped around her finger. As if she were something that needed constant protection. She truly wasn't that fragile, but if it made her parents happy, then she would allow it. All she would have to do was give the right person the proper expression and they would do whatever she pleased. At times it was useful, but at others...it was merely an inconvenience.
Jasper raised an eyebrow at her. "Eighteen, Alice. I'm eighteen," he shrugged. Alice smirked at him, "And how long have you been eighteen?" She asked. Personally, she wanted to know the truth. If he lied to her again, she didn't know what she would do. Oh, how she hoped it didn't come to that. She hoped he would tell her the truth, for once in their relationship. She hoped that he would drop the whole this is for your own protection crap. She hoped...
But hoping was a whole other matter than reality, wasn't it?
sorry it took so long!

Jasper smiled at Alice. It was far to easy to get lost in a moment with her. How she did it, he didn't know. She just had him by the leash like a puppy, him doing whatever she wanted. Of course, while some girls who had guys head over heels for them in the same way often took advantage of the boys and just used them, Jasper was certain Alice wouldn't use him. No, she would never use him for her advantage. Alice wasn't like that at all.
Alice grinned, happy again. "I love getting my way," she said, laughing quietly. Jasper grinned in return, glad Alice was happy again. "I'm glad you're happy," Jasper said with a smile, pulling Alice closer to him. She wasn't going to get away from him that easy.
"And how long have you been eighteen?" Alice asked with a smirk, and Jasper raised an eyebrow again. He didn't want to lie to Alice, but these questions weren't the easiest for him to answer. Let alone truthfully. "Alice, what brought these questions on?" Jasper asked, demanding an answer slightly. He looked over at the floor, staring at the pictures. He was fairly certain the pictures were involved some way in this, but what was 'this'?
It's fine. Mine is short! I couldn't think.

"I'm glad you're happy," Jasper grinned in return, pulling Alice closer to him. She smiled, content as she rested her head in the hollow of his shoulder. She loved small moments like this, where she could simply sit and talk with Jasper in an every day kind of manner. She wasn't the type of girl that wanted the perfect ohmygod relationship. She wanted ups-and-downs, she wanted happiness and tears. Jasper was the kind of guy that could drive her crazy yet ease her pain all at the same time. She loved it, and she wouldn't want it any other way. If she wanted an easy, argument free, careful, steady life, she would have never left Pheonix. She was a complicated girl, she needed a complicated boy.
Jasper raised his eyebrow at her once more. Okay, that was starting to get annoying, whether he could help it or not. "Alice, what brought these questions on?" Jasper asked, demanding an answer. Alice stared at him, her eyebrows nearly reaching her hairline at his tone. "Well, I was wondering when I was going to have to go shopping for your birthday," she informed him, her tone a bit more suspicious, "But now you've got me a little bit worried. How long have you been eighteen, Jasper?"
What was wrong with him? He was beginning to act more testy by the minute. She was asking him simple questions, and here he was, tense as a snake ready to strike, staring at the drawings on the floor. She looked towards them now, unable to stop herself from saying to him, her voice a tad bit sharper than she wanted it to be. "I'm trying to put it all together," she said, "Trying to figure out what you are." She turned to look at him once more, anger and certainty in her eyes, "My dreams, my visions...they never lie, Jasper. I don't know why I didn't start paying attention until now, and I regret it. I still don't understand it all, but I will." She stared into his eyes determiningly, and it was hard work not to fall into the trap. His eyes had always managed to do that before, but not this time.
